Left Lung abscess

This 45 year old gentleman of multiple shallow duodenal ulcers. He had had cough with expectoration every now and then.

The abscess cavity is located in the posterior basal segment of lower lobe of left lung as seen in lateral x-ray.

Later view chest x-ray showed the abscess cavity. Pict.3

Rigid Bronchoscopy: No fluid could be obtained and No abnormality detected.

The lesion was surgically removed.

Histopathology: Rheumatic reaction with Aschoff nodules
